Starting a new job in commercial landscaping with 3 Seasons? Awesome! Your first day is all about learning the ropes, meeting the crew, and jumping into hands-on work. We know the first day can be a little nerve-wracking, but don’t worry—here are some tips to help you show up ready, fit right in, and start strong.
1. Get Familiar with the 3 Seasons Vibe
At 3 Seasons, we’re all about teamwork, a solid work ethic, and taking pride in what we do. From maintaining lawns and landscapes to tackling tree work, we handle a mix of tasks that keep things interesting. Our crew leaders are there to guide you, so be ready to follow their lead and learn as you go.
2. Dress for the Job
Out here, comfort and safety come first. Here’s what you’ll want to bring:
-
Clothing: Wear durable work clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Light, breathable fabrics are great in the heat, and bring layers if it’s cooler.
-
Footwear: Sturdy boots are a must—think steel-toe or other work boots. We’re on rough terrain, lifting heavy stuff, and you’ll thank yourself for the foot protection.
-
Safety Gear: Safety is serious business at 3 Seasons. On your first day, we’ll supply you with ear protection, safety glasses, and gloves. Bringing your own gear as backup is a good idea too, but we’ve got you covered to start.
3. Pack Your Basics
A full day outdoors means you’ll want a few essentials:
-
Water and Snacks: Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! A big water bottle is key, plus some snacks to keep your energy up. Think nuts, fruit, or protein bars.
-
Sun Protection: Sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses are clutch for sunny days. We’re outdoors a lot, and sunburns can really drag you down.
4. Know the 3 Seasons Policies
You’ll get more details as you go, but here are a few basics. We start early—crew leaders clock in at 6:30 AM, crew members at 6:45 AM. We use a time clock and write down our times, so get into the habit of clocking in and out right away. And if you’re not feeling well or need to leave, let your crew leader know first thing.
We’re also a drug-free workplace. This is super important, especially since we work with equipment and around clients. We have zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use on company property, so please keep that in mind.
5. Get to Know Your Equipment
Here at 3 Seasons, we use a mix of equipment for lawn, landscape, and tree work. Our tools are essential, and we put a lot of focus on keeping them in great shape. If something’s off with a piece of equipment, you’ll want to tag it using our system, so it’s fixed and ready to go for the next day. Damaged equipment should get a white tag from the workbench, with a quick description of the problem and the crew it’s assigned to.
6. Show Up with a Positive Attitude
We’re looking for people who work hard, pay attention, and have a good attitude—even when the day’s tough. Landscaping is physical work, so come in ready to get your hands dirty, help out, and be part of the team. It’s okay to ask questions if you’re not sure about something; the crew leaders are there to help you learn.
7. Prepare for Some Physical Work
We’ll be honest—this isn’t a desk job! Be ready for lifting, bending, and working on your feet most of the day. If you’re not used to that yet, no worries, but it helps to stretch a bit before and after the day to avoid soreness.
8. Punctuality Matters
Time is key in this line of work. Get here a few minutes early so you can settle in, grab any needed gear, and get ready to hit the ground running with the crew. If you finish early, we’ll let you know, but clocking in and out properly keeps things fair and keeps us all in sync.
9. Learn as You Go
Each day brings something new—whether it’s a new landscaping skill, a technique with a piece of equipment, or even just a better way to get through a hot day. So, stay curious and take everything in. You’ll pick up a lot just by being out in the field with experienced folks.
Ready to Make a Difference?
At 3 Seasons, we take pride in delivering quality work that our clients appreciate. You’re not just here to mow lawns or trim bushes; you’re here to help make properties look their best and build a great reputation. So, show up ready to learn, work hard, and make an impact.
